I’m Laura Barnard, an illustrator living in Devizes, Wiltshire in the UK. I create colourful illustrated maps that combine tiny details, quirky buildings and hand-drawn typography along with a well-thought-out hierarchy of information.
In my spare time you can find me painting, exploring the local area on foot, planting up our little garden and reading an awful lot of books.
I’ve been a freelance illustrator for more than a decade, having previously worked in the world of graphic design, project management and print production. Illustration clients over the years have included The British Council, RIBA Journal, Populous, Persil, HP, Hello! magazine, Country Living magazine, Beam Global, Sainsbury’s, BMW, Chipotle, Monotype, Ernst & Young, London Fashion Week and the NHS.
If you’re looking for an experienced, reliable and detail-conscious illustrator to help your project run smoothly, drop me a line. My studio hours are Monday to Thursday, 9-4.

“We’ve commissioned Laura for several pieces, I can’t recommend her work highly enough. […] The illustrations for the rebrand were pitched perfectly with both sensitivity to the subject and humour. She is also very personable, and adds an interesting twist to things. We love her work, highly recommended.”
Nick Stone, The Rialto
“We have hired Laura to provide illustration work for a couple of clients, both for web and high end print work. Not only is Laura’s work absolutely stunning, she is a pleasure to work with, has a great understanding of requirements and always delivers on time. Brilliant!”
Matt Williams, Friday
